Having social media for your business is crucial in the modern age of advertising, especially for a business that sells a product that is so easy to get imagery of. However starting on social media from scratch can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not sure on which platforms you want to be using. Here are a few factors to consider when making this all important decision.

Different platforms are more popular among certain demographics, and this is a major thing to think about when deciding which platforms to use. You want to consider the age, gender, location, and interests of your target demographic when deciding on who your target audience is. 

For example if you want to target younger people, platforms like Instagram and TikTok will be the best to use, whereas if you’re only targeting older locals then Facebook is great for joining local groups that you can promote your products on.

Depending on what you want to achieve on social media, it can make a huge difference in how quickly you reach your company goals, however you want to be doing it on the right platforms. You want to start by defining what your goals are, do you want to sell more products? Raise awareness of your company by gaining more followers? Or having people click through to your website?

For example on Facebook you can click a link directly, whereas on Instagram you’d have to follow the link in the bio so it makes it harder to click through to your company website if that’s your goal. You want to be realistic in what your resources are as social media accounts require a lot of time and effort, don’t commit to a photo-sharing app like Instagram if you don’t have anybody to take the photographs, similarly to TikTok if you don’t want to have to take the videos then this probably isn’t the right platform for you. 

You also want to consider if you can put any money towards advertising, and if so, how much. Social media advertising is the absolute best way to get your name out there and put you on the same level as your competitors, even if you only put a small amount of your marketing budget towards it. 

Overall, the most important thing is to choose social media platforms that align with your bakery’s goals and target audience. There’s no rule to say you have to stick to one, so try out a few different platforms and see which ones work best for you. It’s also important to ensure you’re enjoying using social media and are proud of what you’re producing as your audience will want genuine content and interactions from your bakery.
